What is "inukshuk"?

An inukshuk is a structure made of stones piled on top of each other. Inuksuit or inukshuks (which means more than one inukshuk) were used for navigation in the frozen north where, in the snow, everything could look the same. They were also used to mark sacred places.

I use reclaimed wood pieces to create the look and feel of a stacked inukshuk.

I do this with the utmost respect and love for the traditional use of this cairn rock symbol. We already have a few in stock, and these initial designs (with the square-ish styles wood) will not likely be done this way again - unless you specifically order one this way.

In the future, we will spend even more design time in the workshop cutting and sanding down the pieces of wood to be more rounded like the traditional pebble shapes that are the most common in the Inukshuks found all around the Northern parts of Canada.

You could custom order your own version and that would allow you to have some design changes done to this sign. For example, this one had the box frame done in a solid black, but you could have it with the distressed black look, or white or blue or green or red and white. etc. There might be a price change to your design changes, especially if you increase the size, or change the box frame design (We could make the frame far more like a picture frame if you desire)
